Helping parents deal with challenging behaviour
When children exhibit challenging behaviour, sometimes it is hard to know what to do or where to go for support. Explore provides valuable resources and practical tips for families who feel like they are reaching the end of the line and don’t know what to do next.
The team realised there was a strong need for an online learning resource that gave families immediate access to help as soon as they need it, often while they are waiting for an appointment with an in-person specialist support.
When you don’t know where to begin
In what is already a highly stressful situation, many adults can feel as powerless when tackling challenging behaviour, as their kids do when trying to be understood.
An online learning module that you can do in the privacy and comfort of your own home is a great way to start the families on the journey to tackling this challenging behaviour.
Keep it clear and simple
When you need help and need it quickly, a complex online module is not going to be the answer. Keeping the content as simple and accessible as possible was the number one goal. As always, the content needed to be written in plain English so that it could be understood by everyone, no matter what their first language, or their level of literacy.
Unique and customised to the client
We wanted to show learners much as we wanted to tell them, so developing real and relevant scenarios was the most effective way for them to follow the guidance in their own situation. However, we quickly recognised that matching photographs with these scenarios would have multiple challenges.
The answer was to create a palette of characters that represented a family that the audience could identify with. To make this cost-effective, the family will reappear in future modules too, keeping all of the content connected and consistent.
Making a difference in the community we live in
Having strong core values, and being a B Corp Certified organisation, it should come as no surprise that being connected to our local community matters to us at Like-Minded. When a project we are involved in has a direct benefit for the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders, it gives us a high level of job satisfaction. What’s more, being openly available on the Explore website, anyone can go to the website to view and use it.
“From start to finish, Like-Minded supported us to shape and develop our ideas; they listened and responded to our needs. Within tight timeframes, they developed a high-quality course. We are looking forward to working with them on future projects and highly recommend their innovative service to others.”
